Privacy Policy

The short version

We collect only what we need to run the permit checker, deliver a Permit Prep Pack you request, and improve the site. We do not sell your personal information. This policy explains what we collect and your choices.

Information we collect

• Project details you enter. When you use the free checker or the $7,500 exemption tool, we store the answers you provide (project type, location you select, and related choices) so we can generate and save your result. You do not need an account to use the checker.
• Permit Prep Pack requests. We collect an email address when someone requests a free Pack. We keep a record of the email address for delivery, and the project result the Pack was built from. If you purchase a Pack when paid orders are offered, our payment processor (Stripe) handles your card details. We never see or store your full card number.
• Contact messages. If you email us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
• Usage data. Like most websites, we collect standard technical data (pages visited, device and browser type, referring page) through analytics to understand what is useful and fix problems.

How we use it

We use this information to generate your permit result, deliver and support a Pack you request, respond to you, keep the site secure, and improve our guides and tools. We do not use your project answers to identify you publicly.

When someone requests a free Pack:

• Without the tips opt-in, we send exactly one email.
• With the opt-in, we send occasional tips for their area, and they can unsubscribe at any time.

Sharing

We share information only with the service providers that help us operate, each acting on our behalf: our hosting and database providers (Vercel and Supabase), our payment processor (Stripe), our email delivery provider, and Google (Google Analytics for usage measurement and Google AdSense for advertising). We may disclose information if required by law. We do not sell your personal information for money.

We never sell or share their email address with contractors or partners. A contractor shown in a Pack does not receive the homeowner's details.

Cookies and analytics

We use essential cookies to make the site work and Google Analytics to measure usage. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; some features may work less smoothly if you do.

Advertising

We show ads on some pages through Google AdSense. We do not show ads inside the permit checker, results, or checkout.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies, including the DoubleClick cookie, enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices and optout.networkadvertising.org.
• If you opt out, you may still see ads, but they will not be personalized based on your browsing.

Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, we ask for your consent through a consent message before personalized ads or advertising and analytics cookies are used. Until you make a choice, those cookies are set to denied by default. You can change your choice later through the privacy settings option the consent message provides, or by clearing cookies for this site.

Data retention and security

We keep saved results and orders as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal and accounting obligations, then delete or anonymize them. We use reasonable safeguards to protect your data, though no method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure.

Your choices

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or opt out of non-essential communications. If you opted in to receive permit tips, every tips email includes a one-click unsubscribe link. Reach us through our contact form and we will respond.

Your privacy choices and US state privacy rights

Depending on where you live, including California, Virginia, Colorado, and other states with consumer privacy laws, you may have the right to:

• Know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose, and to receive a copy of it.
• Delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal exceptions (for example, order records we must keep for accounting).
• Correct inaccurate personal information.
• Opt out of sale or sharing of personal information for targeted (cross-context behavioral) advertising. We do not sell personal information for money, but the use of advertising cookies may be treated as "sharing" or "targeted advertising" under some state laws. You can opt out by using the Google and industry opt-out links in the Advertising section above, or by blocking third-party cookies in your browser.
• Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To make a request, use our contact form and tell us which right you want to exercise. We may need to verify your request before acting on it, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows.

Children

PermitRoadmap is intended for adults managing property or construction projects and is not directed to children under 13.
