Accuracy and change

Florida building codes, statutes, local ordinances, fees, and department procedures change, and they vary by jurisdiction and by the specifics of your project. We work to keep our guidance current and we cite official sources with a "last verified" date where we can. Even so, requirements can change after we publish, and your situation may differ from the general case. Always confirm the current requirements with your building department before you rely on any result, buy materials, or start work.

The cautious posture

Where a rule is unclear, we default to telling you a permit may be required and to confirm with your department. A false "no permit needed" is the dangerous direction, so when in doubt, we point you toward the authority rather than away from it.
